Traditional highlighter vs Pastel highlighter
Whether at home, office or school, highlighters are highly appreciated products, sometimes for the versatility of colors presented, sometimes for the practical aspect they offer to our daily lives.
A new trend that has been observed in recent years is the focus on pastel highlighters, following the color palette that is increasingly present in fashion. That said, does this type of underlining have the same advantages as traditional highlighters? We will see.
Traditional Highlighter
The origin of the traditional highlighters goes back to the 1960s, and even today it still appears in the cases, drawers and desks of students and professionals. Ideal for underlining or highlighting, they are particularly useful for the amount of intense and vibrant colors, allowing a hierarchy of subjects or topics by color. Traditional highlighter yellow remains the most consensual color used in highlighters.
However, there is a detail that must be taken into account: these traditional highlighters can stain the documents, or transfer the ink to the other side of the sheet, since they are designed based on water. As such, it is important to check the drying quality before actually using it.
Additionally, the traditional highlighter, when opened for a long time without the lid, may result in the ink drying, making its use unfeasible.
Pastel Highlighter
As mentioned, more recently the pastel highlighter appeared, an alternative to the traditional highlighters. Given the soft colors in pastel tones, these are characterized by being very useful for more extensive underlines, since they facilitate reading, due to the lighter tones.
At the same time, it is a highlighter increasingly used for the purpose of lettering, that is, the design of letters and titles. Another advantage is that it has a shorter drying time than the traditional highlighter, although it is also water-based.
Still, and in addition to the traditional highlighter, the tip of the pastel highlighter may also dry out if it is uncovered for a long time.
A matter of taste?
Yes and no. On the one hand, the taste for fluorescent or pastel tones is highly subjective. On the other hand, we have to pay attention to the type of work to be done. If we are talking about school summaries, perhaps the pastel highlighter is a wiser option, since they facilitate reading due to the softer tones. If it is an important note in a professional document, it will be better to use a traditional highlighter, as it is easier to identify the prominence of words or expressions, due to the brightness and intensity of these tones.
